Jumping with the Stars this year saw many lovely young horses contesting the 4, 5 & 6yo sections. There was, as always, stand-outs in each section, however the general quality of the fields was of a good standard and is continuing to improve year by year.
It was a test for all of my young horses as the two 6yos have not been going for long and the 5yo ones are pretty green too. I was lucky enough to pick up the ride on Andrew and Mary Long’s very scopey and impressive, Henschke for the 6yo class. Henschke and Volador did a great job, particularly on the final day having to jump around a challenging 1.15m-1.20m track which is as much as either of these two horses has had to do before. Henschke, a gelding by Indoctro, unfortunately felt a little tired by the last day and didn’t jump as well as he did the first two days but I was still wrapped with how he travelled and coped with it all. It was a big ask from him and he scored very well, particularly on the first day with an initial score of 86.33 which was reduced due to 4 faults late in the round. Andrew Long will now take the ride back on him and we wish him much success at the Mt Gambier Easter Showjumping Festival. Volador placed 6th in both of the Qualifing events and also in the final, jumping a lovely clear round for a final score of 84.33.
Le Belvedere qualified for the final of the 5yo and did a super job around the 1.10m track. He eventually placed 10th in the final after finishing 8th in round 1 and round 2. He is a big gangly baby and I was really proud of him. He has a long way to go but I think he will be a really nice horse. I took part in the Stallion Showcase with him on Saturday afternoon and was extremely impressed with how well the young, green stallion coped with the atmosphere in the big indoor.
David Lever took over the ride on Coralline over the weekend and finished with a good result of 3rd in the Future Stars A2.
All in all very proud of my young horses and looking forward to heading to South Australia this weekend for the next two weeks of shows!
